Take a look behind the scenes and see what community ideas and other improvements we are working on, as they are being developed.
Tooltips
With tooltips you can add help text to custom forms, templates and workflows. The tooltips show when the user moves the mouse over the tooltip area. The next example shows how this works for a custom form. We added a tooltip text "The name of the institution where you completed your latest education" to the "institution" field on a form. When the applicant moves the mouse to that field or wants to enter information, the tooltip appears:

The tooltip automatically disappears after a couple of seconds. You can enter tooltips with all the fields you would like to use on the form in setup. Go to Setup - candidates - custom forms - add field, or edit a field.
Next to custom forms, tooltips are also available in the app itself with templates and workflows. An example is when you have to decide which status you would like to choose next. Inside the app it is possible to have all the relevant tooltips in a separate browser window as "sticky" notes. The presence of this "sticky" notes option is indicated by a small orange "?" icon next to the item. This is an example of this option on the task update screen:

When you click on the "?" icon a new browser window opens and you will see all the relevant tooltips appear as "sticky" notes:

The advantage of opening in a new browser window is that you can keep it open and ready for reference while you are working in peoplexs:

Tooltips are available in setup with:
- Fields on custom forms (also e-forms!)
- Templates
- Workflows
- Workflow status'
- Workflow locations
Masks and controls for custom forms
Custom forms are extended with masks and controls.
With masks you can control how a field appears on a form. An example of a mask for memo text fields is that you can decide what editor should be used. Either no editor, a simple editor with bold, italic and a few other options, or a full blown editor with all possible layout option including font colors etc.
With controls you can add specific checks that make sure the input of the applicant is correct. Next to the existing mandatory option, you can also do other checks like for example valid date checks with date fields.
The new options are available when you add/edit an element to a custom form in setup. So far we have implemented a number of masks and controls that you had on your wish lists. Feel free to suggest more useful masks and controls through the community and we will add them !
The masks we introduced:
- Date fields: mask for date formats DD/MM/YYYY and other
- Memo fields: choose an editor, count the number of characters used while the applicant types!
- Picklist fields: toggle appearance between drop down box, horizontal or vertical aligned radio buttons
- Numeric fields: force the applicant to enter numeric characters while they type!
- Custom options: define your own custom mask by defining a Dutch postal code like "9999 AA" or a Danish by "9999"
- etc.
And controls:
- Date fields: check for a valid date, a future or past date, or a birth date (at least 15 years in the past)
- Memo fields: only allow clean text to be entered, and only text not longer than a specific length
- Picklist fields: checks that only values allowed for submitting can be entered
- Numeric fields: check for a range of allowed values
- Custom options: check for a valid email or URL (linkedin!) format
- etc.
There are a lot of options. To help you, only the masks and controls appropiate for the specific field type you are working on are shown on the screen. And as we said before, please let us know if you think an option is missing.
Limit file size
Based on an idea of @chusersg a new option is introduced to limit the file size of attachments when applying.
This could be helpfull if you have recruiters working with slow connections and to make their life easier you could limit the file size of CVs that candidates can attach to their applications.
You will see a new option when you add a file field (like a CV) to the application form where you can enter a limit for the file size in MB's:

Leaving it empty will mean the overall limit of 20Mb will apply.
Next, you want to decide on an error message you want to present the applicant when he/she would attach a file that is larger then the limit. You can edit this message in the setup of the form:

That's all, would the candidate apply with a too large file, he/she will receive the error message and an additional "back" option, guiding the candidate back to the original form as he/she left it with all data intact.

Note there are some usability issues with this change. The file-size is first know when the file has been completely uploaded to the server. So if a candidate has a large CV and maybe has to wait a while for his file to upload, he will then get the error message that his file is too large. That will give also give some frustration, so the frustration is not gone but we have moved it from the recruiter to the applicant. If you would decide to use this limitation there should be a least a clear message on the application form about the size limit and that the application will be refused if the file is too large.
This change is only in effect when you would use it in setup, your current application forms are not affected by this change.
