Service disruption analysis
We are now finished with the analysis of the service disruption from last Wednesday.
The causes and its effects have all been identified and a number of improvements will be implemented to ensure an incident like this cannot repeat itself.
The papers written by our engineers are available if you would like to have more background information, or discuss our findings with your own IT department. Please let us know if you would like to receive a copy.
Kind regards, Leo Scheltinga CIO
Peoplexs completely available
The restore finished successfully just after midnight yesterday. Since then we have performed a quality control on the restored files and performed a final test of the application with positive results.
Peoplexs is thereby completely available again.
Later this week an in-depth analysis is expected on the causes including lessons-learned of what we will need to improve so that this cannot happen again. A summary of the findings will be published on the product management blog in the community: http://www.peoplexs.com/communities/en/blogs/product_management/
Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or if you would like to receive the in-depth analysis when it comes available and discuss the results.
Kind regards, Leo Scheltinga CIO
Update file system issues peoplexs, Friday October 28, 16:00
The restore is progressing as expected. At this moment 80% of all documents are now available in the system again.
When the restore is finished during the coming night, we will do a quality control on the restored files and perform a final test of the application. These activities come to a close at Saturday morning. We will inform you by mail when these activities are carried out and peoplexs is 100% functional again with no loss of data.
Later this week an in-depth analysis is expected on the causes including lessons-learned of what we will need to improve so that this cannot happen again.
We appreciate your patience in this matter and wish you a good weekend.
Kind regards, Leo Scheltinga CIO
Update file system issues peoplexs, Friday October 28
The restore is progressing as expected. 60% of all documents are now available in the system again. We are still on target to have all documents available again Saturday morning.
We will keep you informed and when all issues are resolved we will come with an explanation of what caused this issue.
Kind regards, Leo Scheltinga CIO
Update file system issues
Yesterday's disruption around 17:00 CET, where Peoplexs was not available during a short period, was due to a failure on our file server. This file server holds all documents (CVs, mail attachments, etc.) of Peoplexs.
Although the disruption was quickly solved, it soon became clear that an undetermined number of files were corrupted and candidates were unable to apply. We therefore initiated a restore of the file system to new hardware. This enabled candidates to apply again around 23:00 CET. Furthermore, the restore will recover the existing files in the system.
This restore is expected to finish on Saturday. This means that today and tomorrow (Thursday 27 and Friday 28 October) not all files are available in the system, and you cannot receive e-mails in the system. You will experience errors when trying to read CVs, mails and documents during those two days. This situation will persist until Saturday.
We are working on possible alternatives to mend the corrupted data on the original file system, which will be finished this afternoon. This could solve the situation quicker and resume file services back to normal already today, but we do not know yet if it will be technically possible. Until further notice the restore is therefore the resolution.
When all issues are resolved we will come with an explanation of what caused this issue.
Our apologies for the inconvenience this is causing for you.
Kind regards, Leo Scheltinga CIO
Issues with the availability of peoplexs October 26
As you probably have noticed was peoplexs not available today during a short period. The cause of this disruption was a problem with one of our fileservers. The disruption has been resolved and data of 05:00 this morning is being restored.
This "restore" does only entail documents and attachments of e-mails; all other data is not affected by the disruption. Unfortunately all documents that have been made today are not available in the restore. As soon as the restore is finished we will continue by recovering the documents that were stored during this day. As soon as we have more information on the progress we will publish a new message on the community.
When you have questions you can always reach us on helpdesk@peoplexs.com.
Our apologies for the inconvenience this causes for you.
With kind regards,
Robin de Waal Customer Care Manager
Changes to Peoplexs e-mail server
From the first week of October 2011 we will start using a new mail server for sending email from Peoplexs. This will be a mail server that is specifically designed for sending large numbers of emails and is prepared for the growth in outgoing email we are currently experiencing.
We inform you of this change as it may have consequences on receiving email sent from Peoplexs within your own organization. Customers who had problems with this in the past probably created an SPF record for smtp.peoplexs.com which is referred to the IP-address of our current mail server. Since this mail server will be changed so will the IP-address. The new IP address will be: 212.72.56.74.
We want to advise you to contact your IT department with the information above and ask them if a SPF record for Peoplexs is setup. If this is the case then the new IP-address can be added to the current SPF record. Once the change is performed we will inform you through our community so the old IP address can be removed from the SPF record.
If there are still questions about this announcement do not hesitate to contact us.

PeopleXS webinar evaluation
It was Monday morning August 17, the new PeopleXS release was almost ready, the internet connections were tested and at 10:00 is started, the first PeopleXS webinar. Exciting, not only for a lot of our users, but certainly for us as well.
Over 60 users have participated in various sessions throughout the day. They were able to see and here online what important changes were made in the august release of PeopleXS.
But what did they think of the webinar? Of course everybody has had the change to leave their feedback after the webinar.
"I found it to be an efficient and practical
way of explaining things!"
– Esther van Deelen, Fontys Hogescholen
The use of the webinar sessions was recognized by almost every participant, 80% thought the webinar was useful to very useful. The reason for some participants to rate the webinar as less useful was mainly because of the company network that did not allow streaming content. Especially from them and those who wanted to watch the webinar again a link has been made available to watch or download the webinar again.
The software that was used for the webinar was rated by 70% of the participants as user-friendly en 10% said it was even very user-friendly. From the comments of the other 20%, who thought the user-friendliness was poor, we saw that connection issues and firewalls were the biggest cause of annoyance.
To the question of the information up front was adequate 75% answered that this was indeed the case. For us this was a motivation to give information more frequent en clear the next time.
80% of the questioned was pleased with the way things were presented, 60% even said they were very pleased with this new way of presenting new functionalities.
Finally we asked the question if you would like to participate in a webinar more often. Over 90% replied positive! For us this was a confirmation that we are on the good track and of course this is a big stimulation to make the next webinar an even bigger success!
"Keep on going"
– Lisa van Pappelendam, Randstad Inhouse Recruitment
For us this first webinar was a good learning moment and a nice opportunity to gain experience with presenting the release online. Your feedback is therefore of course essential! Because of that we specially would like to thank those who have participated and filled out the evaluation form.
There will be many more webinars in the future as PeopleXS continues to improve and expand her application. We are really looking forward to welcome you on our next webinar and maybe show you more about our development on social network integration!
