Primary Music Teacher 100% (maternity leave)


For a maternity leave we are seeking a Primary Music Teacher from January 2018.

The person fulfilling this position will demonstrate a passion for the creative arts and actively support the the development of creative thinking across the disciplines. In addition, they will inspire students to take leadership and initiative in developing the creative arts across the school.  T
eachers at ICS are responsible for ensuring that their practice inside and outside the classroom is in harmony with the educational philosophy of the school. All teachers are members of departmental, grade level and secondary teams and as such share responsibility for positively supporting school change as outlined in the school’s strategic plan.  Teachers need to demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a collaborative culture within the school. In addition they need to embody an understanding of the social and emotional dimensions of learning.


Responsibilities

Specific to Music

  • Involvement in arts-related extra-curricular activities to enhance the school experience for all learners

General teaching responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare the daily activities and provide music classes for pupils aged 3-11 years
  • Provide performance opportunities according to students’ abilities
  • Supervise rehearsals
  • Teach musical skills and knowledge in an inquiry context focused on conceptual understanding and creativity
  • Teach and develop musical literacy
  • Provide a variety of opportunities for students to create, interpret and present their learning in music including in authentic contexts: musicality, choreography skills, presentation and personal projection etc.
  • Instruct enunciation, diction, voice development
  • Research, develop, purchase and adapt learning materials and make imaginative use of resources
  • Celebrate the cultural diversity of the school population and explore possible links with home countries through the internet and other activities

General administrative responsibilities
  • Liaise within the Music Team to ensure that programme requirements are met
  • Coordinate school productions with the Homeroom Teachers
  • Plan and schedule productions and inform all involved (e.g. parents etc.)
  • Inform Homeroom Teacher about issues of concern related to student welfare, achievement and behaviour
  • Attend Parent/Teacher and student-led Conferences
  • Attend meetings for planning and administration
  • Attend in-service training and professional development workshops
  • Research developments in the profession and studies relevant professional literature
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest musical trends, moves, rhythm, music genre and artists
  • Engage in the annual Appraisal Process in accordance with the school’s policy

Requirements


Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current classroom teacher qualification to teach Music
  • Experience teaching  PYP (Primary)  Music
  • Minimum 2 years recent and relevant classroom experience
  • Knowledge and experience of the PYP programmes
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • IT competence
